Trump’s New Order Extends and Expands Ban on Entry to the United States

Yesterday, the Trump Administration issued a presidential proclamation extending and expanding the ban on entry to the United States for holders of select nonimmigrant visas. Notably, the order does not impact foreign nationals currently in the United States.

The extended and expanded ban comes two months after the Trump Administration’s April executive order which suspended the entry of individuals traveling to the United States on immigrant visas. Yesterday’s update expands the ban to cover the following key temporary work visa categories:

· H-1B (specialty occupation) and their dependents.

· H-2B (temporary non-agricultural workers and seasonal workers) and their dependents.

· J-1 (cultural and educational exchange visitors) and their dependents.

· L-1 (multinational intracompany transferees) and their dependents.
